In 2004, Cumwhinton supported the introduction of horse trials in the north of Cumbria and we are honoured to have played an important part in leading the way in the development of the equestrian events now taking place in this area.
Only a decade on, the sport in north Cumbria has grown and is now well established with events also taking place at Hutton in the Forest, Eden Valley and, more recently, Warwick Hall.
This is with thanks to the efforts and dedication of Lucinda and Douglas Weymouth.
Our aim, at Cumwhinton, has always been to promote and develop equestrian activities in this location. Over recent years we have seen the introduction of the BE 80 Training section at Cumwhinton, providing opportunity for young riders and newcomers wishing to venture into this sport. From the number of entries and positive comments, this proved to be a very popular and successful move.
However, more entries mean a very busy weekend and without the dedication of volunteers, who willingly give their support throughout the weekend, this event would not be possible. We currently have around 200 volunteers and on behalf of the competitors I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their time and support. We are also extremely grateful to the many sponsors who have given their support over the years to Cumwhinton Horse Trials and I would like to thank them for their continued support.
Working with the sponsors and the small core team, who do so much to ensure that the event is both a success and fun, we aim to continue the development of the Cumwhinton Horse Trials, alongside providing high quality cross country training opportunities in this location. We are committed to this venture and will continue to improve and upgrade the facilities, making a visit to Cumwhinton a rewarding and enjoyable experience for everyone.
